Liverpool is now preparing for the second leg of the Europa League tie against Sparta Prague on Thursday. Jürgen Klopp’s side secured an emphatic 5-1 win in the first leg.
Goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Darwin Núñez, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Díaz have provided a nice buffer for the Reds to work with in this fixture, with the Liverpool boss possibly having the option to rest a number of his top senior players for the fixture. Shortly after the first leg, the Reds faced Manchester City in a huge Premier League clash and will now face a similar turnaround, as the team also looks ahead to facing Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday.
Away from the pitch, Michael Edwards has finally been persuaded by FSG to make a return to Anfield, nearly two years after leaving his role as sporting director. The 44-year-old has now been appointed to the role of CEO of football and will oversee the club during the post-Klopp era.
With changes to the squad, backroom staff and dugout all on the horizon, as well as games coming thick and fast, here are all the latest headlines brought to you by Liverpool.com.
Michael Edwards has made his return to Liverpool and has been urged by a former player to attempt to keep Jürgen Klopp at the club. The 56-year-old German announced he would be parting ways with Anfield at the end of the current campaign.
Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchinson has suggested that the first task Edwards should aim to solve is keeping the legendary boss at the helm of the club. Speaking on X (formerly Twitter) the 52-year-old shared his thoughts on the matter, by saying: “[Michael] Edwards’ 1st job should be to sit down with [Jürgen] Klopp. Ask him what will it take to make him stay. Promise him 2/3 big names.
“Imagine the impact on the Liverpool fans if he changed his mind. It would be monumental and a huge [tick] for FSG and Edwards. Pep/Arteta etc gutted.” Klopp has since quashed any prospect of a U-turn on his future.
