Potential Michael Edwards transfer target reveals he’s a Liverpool fan

One of the Reds’ potential summer transfer targets has revealed that he is a Liverpool supporter and has suggested that he would love a move to Anfield.

With Michael Edwards having been appointed Fenway Sports Group’s CEO of Football and Richard Hughes having agreed to become the club’s sporting director at the end of the season, Liverpool can now begin to work more coherently towards their transfer plans for the summer.

The Reds may not have Jurgen Klopp’s successor lined up just yet, but it’s been reported that the club will look to sign wingers and centre-backs in the next transfer window.

Liverpool have been linked with plenty of central defenders over the past few months, including Feyenoord’s David Hancko, who was said to be a January transfer target.

The Slovakian international has now revealed that he is a huge Liverpool supporter and dreams of playing in the Premier League one day.

Speaking to Aktuality (via TBR Football), Hancko has admitted to following Liverpool since he was young, pinpointing the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul as his earliest memory of being a Red.

“It all started with the Istanbul Champions League final in 2005, which my parents allowed me to watch until the end, and I didn’t have to go to bed even when extra time was going on. And then came Martin Skrtel,” said Hancko.

“I have been a Liverpool fan ever since. I follow the English Premier League the most, so that is my dream.

“My role model has always been David Beckham, but I feel most for Liverpool, but so far nothing is happening. Because of my new contract it won’t be easy. If there is a possibility and it is good for us, why not?”

Hancko helped Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last season and has caught the eye due to his versatility, with the left-footed defender capable of playing at centre-back or left-back.

After being linked with a move to Liverpool in the winter, Hancko extended his contract with the Dutch side in February, taking his stay to June 2028.

However, there is a strong possibility that the Slovakian star leaves Rotterdam this summer, and it will be interesting to see whether Edwards and Hughes make a concrete move for the defender.
