Andy Robertson suffers another injury scare on international duty

Liverpool’s Andy Robertson was forced off in the first half of Scotland’s clash with Northern Ireland, with an apparent ankle injury.

The 29-year-old full back, who is Scotland’s captain, left the field in clear discomfort after only 37 minutes and had to be replaced by Lewis Ferguson.

Robertson had initially tried to carry on after a heavy challenge from Northern Ireland’s Trai Hume, which left him clutching his ankle, but eventually signalled to the bench that he couldn’t continue.

The sight of Robertson limping off the Hampden Park pitch with his head lowered is an image no Liverpool fan will have wanted to see on Tuesday night.

The incident will be particularly infuriating to those at Liverpool considering the game between Scotland and Northern Ireland is only a friendly.

This also marks the second time the left back has suffered an injury on international duty this season.

Back in during the October break, Robertson fell awkwardly after colliding with Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon and dislocated his shoulder.

The surgery required from that injury put the Liverpool star out of action for three months, and Jurgen Klopp will be fearful of another serious issue ahead of a crucial juncture in the season.

Once the international break is over, the Reds resume their Premier League campaign this weekend, with just ten more gameweeks left in the title race.

There is also the Europa League to think about, with Liverpool aiming to finish Klopp’s final season with a treble.
