Enormous price tag revealed for possible Jurgen Klopp replacement

Liverpool’s quest to find the perfect replacement for Jurgen Klopp could come at a massive cost. The release clause for one of the leading candidates to take the Anfield hotseat has been revealed – and it’s a big one.

According to the Daily Mail, while Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso remains the favourite to take the helm at Anfield, Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim fits the profile sought by the Reds’ management, having scored high on internal data tests led by the club’s head of research, Will Spearman.

However, acquiring his services may come at a hefty cost, with Amorim’s release clause reportedly hovering around the £25 million mark – a figure that could potentially eclipse existing managerial transfer records.

With Alonso also wanted by German champions Bayern Munich, this poses a considerable dilemma for Liverpool, who must weigh the financial implications against their desire not to be caught out by the managerial merry-go-round.

Amorim has emerged as a compelling candidate, ticking several boxes on Liverpool’s checklist. However, the Portuguese tactician’s path to Anfield is laden with hurdles, primarily Sporting Lisbon’s reluctance to part ways with their prized asset.

The 39-year-old has been immensely successful as a coach since retiring from professional football in 2017. He swiftly transitioned to coaching in 2018, beginning his journey at Casa Pia before coaching Braga’s ‘B’ team, where he worked extensively with young talent.

In 2019, Amorim earned a promotion to lead Braga’s senior team, but his managerial journey reached new heights in March 2020 when he assumed the role of manager at Sporting Lisbon.

Amorim’s coaching career has been marked by significant achievements. He boasts three Portuguese League Cup victories, securing two with Sporting and one with Braga. Additionally, he guided Sporting to a Primeira Liga triumph during the 2020/21 season.

Remarkably, Amorim maintains an impressive 70% win rate across more than 200 games.
