Cooper Flagg Fires Back at Media Speculation Over 2025 NBA Draft Decision

After the Duke Blue Devils shockingly collapsed in their Final Four contest against the Houston Cougars, suffering a 70-67 defeat, all eyes turned to Cooper Flagg. With the star forward expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft, many folks were curious when he’d announce what his future plans are.

Flagg lived up to the hype surrounding him in his first, and potentially only season, with Duke, leading them on a run to the Final Four in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. However, when recently asked about the draft, Flagg didn’t exactly sound like he was dead set on leaving the Blue Devils.

“I think kind of what you said, just evaluating, you know, reflecting,” Flagg said about his draft decision. “It was an incredible year. I met a lot of incredible people. Made a ton of great relationships that I’m going to have for the rest of my life, and I think now it’s time for me to reflect. You know, take a couple days; take a week; take a month. Whatever it is for me. Talk to my parents, talk to the coaches and just really decide what’s best for me.”

At this point, Flagg is simply taking his time before revealing what’s next for him, but that doesn’t mean he can’t hear the media speculation surrounding his decision. When asked about that, Flagg said it’s simply part of the job, and that he’s intent on ignoring it as best as he can.

“It’s just part of it,” Flagg said. “It’s part of the media. It’s part of what people — they say good things, they say bad things. For me, it’s just not really listening to what anybody says, just staying true to who I am, trying to be humble and just taking it one day at a time.”

Flagg averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 48.1% from the field in the 2024-25 campaign with Duke. While he continues to take his time with his decision, it’s clear that fans everywhere are going to keep tabs on him in anticipation of his potential declaration for the 2025 NBA draft.
