Liverpool star Andy Robertson was left “angry” and “disappointed” after Scotland were heavily beaten by the Netherlands.

Robertson was captaining Scotland in their friendly against the Netherlands on Friday night. Scotland lost 4-0 at the Johan Cruyff Arena, in what was a disappointing evening for the Reds left-back.

On the opposite side, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was wearing the armband for the Netherlands. He was joined by Reds teammate Cody Gakpo in the line-up that saw goals from Tijjani Reijnders, Wout Weghorst, Donyell Malen and former Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum.

 

Robertson was far from happy with the performance from Scotland. The Liverpool defender expressed his frustration at the number of goals conceded, with the nation also going six games without a win and having let in 13 goals across their last four games.

“I’m feeling anger and disappointment,” said Robertson after Scotland’s defeat, via the Daily Mail. “We can’t come away to these big teams and play the way we did.

“We have completely opened up at the end. The fact we’ve walked off 4-0 is unbelievable. It’s impossible for it to happen. We need to have a look at it.

“We can’t keep doing this. In the last couple of games, we’ve shipped quite a lot of goals. People looking at that result will think it was one-sided. We need to take a look at it and sort it out.

 

“In the last six games, we’ve dropped our standards. It could have been 6-0 at the end. We need to get back to winning ways.”

Robertson played the full 90 minutes for Scotland on Friday night. He will now be preparing for his country’s final game of the month against Northern Ireland on Tuesday night, before returning to Merseyside for the start of the season run-in at Liverpool.
