Transfer portal moves, NBA Draft decisions, and summer workouts still lie ahead. But for fans starved for any kind of update, even the smallest offseason news feels like a spark heading into fall. For the Duke Blue Devils, the anticipation is especially high after a 2025-26 campaign that had Durham believing this was the year.
Jon Scheyer’s squad dominated the Atlantic Coast Conference from start to finish. Duke rolled through league play to capture the ACC regular season title, then followed it up by cutting down the nets in the ACC Tournament. It was a complete display of talent, depth, and execution that made the Blue Devils look like a true national championship contender. That momentum carried into March. Duke entered the NCAA Tournament as a No. 1 seed and handled business in the early rounds. The offense was clicking, the defense was locked in, and a return to the Final Four — a stage Duke knows well — seemed inevitable.
Everything was going according to plan until the Elite Eight. Facing UConn, the Blue Devils built a commanding 19-point lead and had the Huskies on the ropes. But March is cruel. UConn clawed back, Duke’s offense went cold at the worst time, and what looked like a coronation turned into a stunning collapse. The comeback ended Duke’s season and left a team full of promise with one of the most painful exits of the tournament.
Now the focus shifts to what comes next. With a few months until tipoff and roster decisions still pending, Duke has time to regroup. The taste of that Elite Eight loss will linger, but so will the memory of an ACC championship run that proved the Blue Devils are still a powerhouse.
