Latest Liverpool news as Jurgen Klopp has supposedly changed his stance on one Reds man. Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus is being linked with a big-money transfer move.
Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp was in attendance as his former side Borussia Dortmund lost the Champions League final against Real Madrid and he has supposedly changed his tune on one Reds man.
Meanwhile, after Arne Slot’s first day in the job, Liverpool is being linked with a transfer move for a versatile forward in Mohammed Kudus, who has a release clause that comes into effect from next summer. The West Ham United attacker was impressive in his first campaign in England after signing from Ajax in 2023.
While Liverpool would be wise to add more depth in other areas as well, the main priority for the Reds has to be in defense this summer. With Joel Matip leaving and Ibrahima Konate injury-prone, adding another body will be vital.
Jurgen Klopp makes Liverpool U-turn
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has changed his mind about 25-year-old goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher according to the Daily Mirror. In a recent interview, the Irish stopper, now 25, has expressed a desire to play regular minutes with Klopp having previously been reluctant to let him leave because of his importance to the Reds’ squad.
“He had some nice words for me. I was with him for a number of years and he said ‘You became a brilliant goalkeeper in that time.’ He is going to follow my career wherever I go. He wants to see me playing and to be happy,” Kelleher said, via The Independent, suggesting that Klopp is now more open to him leaving now it is not his decision.
“The season I’ve had, I’ve played a lot of games and had that taste this season of being a number one,” Kelleher continued. “Whether that’s at Liverpool or elsewhere, that remains to be seen. My main focus at the moment is to be number one.”
Mohammed Kudus transfer ‘seriously considered’
Liverpool is ‘seriously considering’ a transfer move for 23-year-old West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus according to Football Transfers. While an attempt to sign the player might not come this summer, Kudus has supposedly been identified as a possible Mohamed Salah successor.
Kudus’ contract contains a release clause worth $109m (£85m/€100m) but that only comes into effect from next summer. But as a result of Lucas Paqueta being under investigation and therefore potentially unsellable, West Ham might have to consider cashing in on someone else instead, with Kudus being the obvious candidate.
While Kudus is a good player and he now has a year of Premier League football on his CV, Liverpool could have signed him for around half of that figure when he left Ajax last summer. Spending double or so a year on would be slightly frustrating.
