Arne Slot will officially be confirmed as new head coach of Liverpool on June1, however he is keen on bolstering the squad.
Arne Slot is poised to imprint his mark on the Liverpool squad this summer as he officially starts work on June 1.
The Reds have been frequently linked with high-profile players, but it remains uncertain whether John Henry will allocate substantial funds to the Dutchman for team reinforcement.
Last season, Liverpool invested nearly £200 million in acquiring four midfielders including Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, and Wataru Endo.
Two seasons ago, Jurgen Klopp made significant signings in the form of forwards Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo, suggesting a potential reshuffling in the defensive lineup for the Reds.
Despite Jarell Quansah’s stellar debut season, the looming contract expiry of Virgil van Dijk in June 2025 and Joe Gomez’s utilization primarily as a full-back pose strategic considerations.
According to Daily Mail’s Kieran Gill, Liverpool are interested in Levi Colwill from Chelsea, with Arne Slot seeking a versatile left-footed defender.
He posted on X: “Liverpool like Levi Colwill – Arne Slot is chasing a versatile left-footed defender – but Chelsea want 21-year-old academy graduate to stay this summer.
“Contracted until 2029 with option of a further year”
Liverpool have been closely monitoring Colwill since last summer.
He signed a new six-year contract with the Blues which includes an option for an additional year.
The England Under-21 international played a significant role in Brighton’s qualification for the Europa League during the 2022/23 season, featuring in 17 Premier League matches during his loan spell at the club.
Colwill’s journey began at Chelsea, where he joined at the age of eight, progressing through the ranks of the Blues’ youth setup.
He then embarked on a loan stint at Huddersfield during the 2021/22 season, where he made 29 appearances in the Championship and played a pivotal role in the club’s advancement to the play-off final.
Following an impressive loan spell at Brighton, Colwill continued to excel on the international stage.
He contributed to the England Under-21s’ triumph in the European Championship, marking the first time in 39 years that the team secured the title.
The 20-year-old, who returned from a noteworthy loan stint at Brighton last summer solidified his position as a mainstay in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting lineup, featuring in 32 matches across all competitions this season.
