BREAKING: Who is Jürgen Klopp’s wife? Secret hero who made him extend Liverpool stay

Ulla Sandrock, Jürgen Klopp’s wife, performed a secret act of kindness in Liverpool during the pandemic. She was also key in her husband’s last contract renewal.

Jürgen Klopp will be exiting Liverpool FC this summer but the impact that he leaves behind is enormous. And the German’s family have made a lasting difference as well.

Klopp and his wife Ulla Sandrock have lived in Merseyside since 2015. The couple, who live in a house once owned by Steven Gerrard, will presumably be moving on once Klopp departs the club at the end of the campaign — but they have made a long-term impact on the local community.

The Liverpool boss’ legacy needs no explanation. He will leave Liverpool as one of the all-time greats, up there will Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley. But his wife has also had an impact during their time in the city.

Ulla performed a remarkable act of kindness during the Covid pandemic that won’t be forgotten anytime soon. In April 2020, she handed out £1,000 (around $1300) worth of food vouchers to supermarket staff as a “thank you” for their frontline work during the pandemic.

This touching gesture took place at Waitrose in Formby, where Ulla distributed 20 separate £50 vouchers to the staff on duty. The act was described as “amazing” by those close to the store.

One of the staff members shared: “This was an incredible thing to do. Typically, Ulla didn’t want to make a fuss, or receive any recognition, and just wanted people working in shops to get the recognition they deserve.”

A spokesperson for the shop told the ECHO: “Our Formby team is incredibly grateful for the support and understanding shown by everyone who has visited our store, but we would always respect the privacy of our customers.”

Ulla’s influence even extended to the football club at times. Indeed, Klopp credited her for penning his last extension — which was initially supposed to take him through to 2026 at Anfield.

He has cited burnout among the reasons he will call it a day prematurely, but at the time he said his wife was key to the decision to extend his stay. “‘Why [am I staying]?” he asked. “Because Ulla wants to stay! And like a good husband, when your wife wants you to stay, you stay!”

He would also go into a little more detail (via This is Anfield). “We sat in the kitchen at the table and Ulla said, ‘I can’t see us leaving in 2024.’ And I was like, ‘What?!’ ‘No, really, [with] all the people about.”

Of course, Klopp and his wife Ulla do not have to leave Liverpool just because he is leaving the football club. If there’s one thing that’s for sure, it’s that he will always be welcome in the city to which he has been granted the freedom.

They seem to have come to truly love Liverpool, with Klopp expressing his joy that he has been able to become a Scouser. And the impact of both him and Ulla should be recognized. Her gesture during the pandemic was a great one.
