Liverpool duo ‘eyed’ by Saudi Pro League as transfer interest in Arne Slot squad grows

Luis Diaz and Joe Gomez are reportedly the latest Liverpool players to be targeted for a transfer move to Saudi Arabia.

Diaz, who has already been linked with the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks, and Gomez have reportedly ’emerged as targets’ for the Saudi Pro League as they look to continue their push for household names in the world of football.

Having last year focused on recruiting players coming towards the end of their careers, such as Karim Benzema and former Reds captain Jordan Henderson, this summer’s focus is on bringing those in their prime years to the division.

This was confirmed by the division’s chief football executive, Michael Emenalo, in a recent interview with The Telegraph, who said: “When you accept these type of projects with the associated ambition the goal is to be the best you can possibly be,” he said. “Right now our goal is to be one of the top leagues in the world.”

The Daily Mail have suggested both Diaz and Gomez ‘could be open’ to leaving Liverpool this summer, with the SPL of the view there is an ‘opportunity’ to test the Reds’ resolve in the market following Jurgen Klopp’s’ departure. Liverpool could also have to manage offers for Alisson Becker and Mohamed Salah, who are both also being targeted for moves to the Middle East.

The Reds rejected an offer of £150million from Al-Ittihad on transfer deadline day last September for Salah, who is about to enter the final 12 months of his current deal at Anfield. Discussing this saga last year, Klopp had no doubts the Egyptian would stay put.

“I never had any doubt about his commitment to this club,” the German told Sky Sports. “You can’t imagine how much fuss the world has made but how calm we are with it. He is our player and wants to play here.”
