But this year feels a little different. Klopp and Liverpool have no real reason to return to the transfer market. There were injuries to the first team but Liverpool won. Not only that, but Liverpool are on top of the Premier League mountain and heading for the cup final. So unless a major injury occurs between now and the end of the month, the club won’t need to sign anyone.
Klopp’s hope will be to bring back some of the players he lost to help the club who are struggling on all four fronts in the second half of the season. Roberto Firmino (Al Ahly)Roberto Firmino’s legacy at Liverpool was secured long before he decided to leave the club for Saudi money at the end of the season. Firmino, along with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, left Anfield for greener pastures. But after six months, Henderson was fed up and decided to leave the Middle East, with his contract at Ajax now up (according to Sky Sports). But Firmino will take no such measures. Fabrizio Romano (via Rousing the Kop) claims the Brazilian intends to stay at Al Ahly and is ready to fight for his place.
Given the small crowds at the game and the contrast with the Western lifestyle, it’s no wonder others followed Henderson out of Saudi Arabia. However, Firmino seems to want to continue working in Saudi Arabia and his decision should be respected even if he is good enough to play in one of Europe’s top five leagues. As they have shown in recent years, Liverpool are ready to do business in the January transfer window if necessary. Jurgen Klopp will not make a move in the winter unless absolutely necessary or if one of Liverpool’s rivals advances towards his desired target. In the winter of 2022, Luis Diaz arrived a few months ahead of schedule, and the following year, Cody Gakpo arrived in early 2023.
