If the first two picks in the NBA Draft don’t go as planned, we might see some crazy decisions with the next two picks. There seems to be a real expectation that the Utah Jazz and Washington Wizards, with the Wizards holding the first pick and the Jazz holding the second, will go with some variation of AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson.
Honestly, if I were one of those two teams, I don’t know how they would go with anybody else. That isn’t a shot at UNC’s Caleb Wilson or Duke’s Cameron Boozer, but just a reality of how good both of those guys are.
However, there now seems to be a feeling that Wilson can move up on some draft boards. Depending on how he looks throughout the draft process, whether it be his play or answers, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Wilson get an opportunity to move up to at least No. 3. Right now, some view Boozer as the third-best prospect in this class, with the Memphis Grizzlies.
CBS doesn’t expect that to be the case, as it recently predicted that Wilson would even go as high as No. 2, which would see him drafted by the Utah Jazz.
“With Keyonte George as its lead guard of the future and other promising young players on the perimeter, Utah passes on Darryn Peterson. Wilson’s defensive versatility and athleticism at the four sets him apart from the other towering presences on Utah’s roster. He’s also an A+ culture piece with loads of long-term upside, which makes him a great fit for a young franchise trying to find its identity,” Davis Cobb of CBS wrote.
In this scenario, the Jazz passed on Peterson.
I don’t think that’s going to happen, but again, there’s absolutely no telling until the draft plays out. Wilson might have the second-highest upside in this class, but I’m also of the belief that Peterson has the highest upside, so if he’s available at No. 2, that’s personally who I’d go with.
