Liverpool forward Fabio Carvalho will be looking to make a strong impact under new manager Arne Slot.
The 21-year-old joined the Reds in the summer of 2022 and made 21 appearances in all competitions in his first season at the club. Jurgen Klopp hailed the youngster as “exceptional”, but the club felt it would be nice for him to move elsewhere on loan.
The move to RB Leipzig on loan didn’t work out according to the plans. He made only three starts and the Reds recalled him in January.
The former Fulham attacking midfielder then joined Hull City on loan where he rediscovered his mojo. He scored nine goals and provided two assists in 20 appearances, and Hull City fell just short of qualifying for the play-offs.
According to a report from The Athletic, Carvalho will be given a chance to impress in the pre-season. Slot likes him and should fit nicely in the manager’s 4-2-3-1 new system. However, there is a lot of competition for those places, and if Carvalho doesn’t step up, either temporary once more or permanent exit will be considered.
Fabio Carvalho deserves proper chance to impress Slot
Carvalho deserves a proper chance to impress the Dutch manager. He was superb for Hull City and should be aiming to replicate a similar performance if given a proper chance.
However, Liverpool are well-stocked in their attacking midfield areas and Carvalho could face more competition if the Reds decided to add one or two quality players in that region.
Slot needs to make some big decisions on players coming from loans. Nathaniel Phillips is almost certain to leave, and the same can be said about young right-back Calvin Ramsay.
At the same time, players such as Luke Chambers, Tylker Morton, Sepp van den Berg, and Owen Beck could be given opportunities to impress.
Carvalho has shown that he is capable of producing moments of brilliance. He now needs to prove that he is good enough to play for Liverpool regularly.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds are likely to miss out on Inter Milan midfielder after latest update emerges.
