🏈 Back in Foxborough: Former Mizzou OT Yasir Durant Returns to Patriots After UFL Success

What does it take for a player to earn a second chance in the NFL? For Yasir Durant, the answer lies in grit, patience, and a championship résumé. Durant, who last played in the NFL with the Patriots in 2021, has signed a new contract with the team following an impressive two-season run in the United Football League (UFL) with the D.C. Defenders. The news broke via UFL social media, sparking excitement among Missouri fans and Patriots faithful alike who remember the 6-foot-7, 330-pound lineman for his sturdy presence and NFL-ready build.

Though he’s no stranger to NFL action—Durant previously started 11 games for the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2020 season and saw action with the Patriots in 2021—this signing marks a redemption arc for the former undrafted free agent, who took the unconventional route back to the pros through the UFL.

Durant’s time in the UFL wasn’t just filler—it was a rebirth. In his second season with the D.C. Defenders, he not only helped lead the team to a championship but was also named to the All-UFL First Team, earning league-wide respect for his consistency and leadership on the offensive line. His first season didn’t end in a playoff berth, but Durant showed enough grit and improvement to return stronger, anchoring the offensive front with skill and poise.

Before turning pro, Yasir Durant made a name for himself at the University of Missouri, where he was a three-year starter from 2017 to 2019. Playing left tackle, he was instrumental in protecting quarterbacks like Drew Lock and Kelly Bryant, showcasing both pass protection prowess and strength in the run game. Despite his collegiate success, he went undrafted, but the Kansas City Chiefs saw potential in him and gave him his NFL start.

After short stints with the Saints and Patriots, Durant’s NFL opportunities dried up—until now.

The Patriots’ offensive line has been in flux due to injuries and inconsistency, and Durant brings with him not only size and experience but also a hunger that can’t be taught. His familiarity with the Patriots system, thanks to his earlier stint, could be a critical asset as training camp looms.

Now back in Foxborough, Durant’s journey is a testament to perseverance, and it’s far from over. As a veteran of both NFL and UFL play, he stands as a shining example of the opportunities alternative leagues like the UFL can create for players who refuse to let the dream die.

Will this second act in New England lead to a bigger role—or even a starting job? If Yasir Durant has anything to say about it, you can bet he’s ready to protect the pocket and prove he belongs.
