FSG want a candidate who can bring stability and work alongside the man who will oversee Klopp at Anfield. Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes is one of the early candidates, according to the Daily Mail.
The former Portsmouth midfielder is believed to be “well equipped” for the job. Hughes worked behind Eddie Howe when he was Cherries manager. The former Scotland international continued to improve and help the south coast club win promotion to the Premier League. Andoni IIraola was appointed manager last summer and Bournemouth are 12th in the Premier League. Howe is reportedly keen to bring Hughes to St James’ Park following his appointment as Newcastle United manager.
The position has been under threat since Michael Edwards left the club in the summer of 2022, with Julian Ward having just one year in the role before his departure. Liverpool have tapped Klopp’s compatriot Jörg Schmatke as short-term manager, but the former Wolfsburg boss is set to leave the club at the end of the January transfer window.
