Diogo Jota change becomes clear as history repeats itself for Liverpool forward

With a quick nod, Diogo Jota announced his arrival at Anfield. It is almost a year since Liverpool’s number 20, signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers 11 months ago, came on for Ben Mee to break the deadlock in a routine 2-0 win against Burnley in August 2021 . For Jota, it was his first taste of an Anfield crowd in the Premier League as Liverpool welcomed home fans for the first time in 18 months since the Covid-19 pandemic.Since then, it has been a difficult journey for the Portuguese ace. He recently surpassed 50 goals in a red shirt against Burnley in December and was soon compared to his predecessor Robbie Fowler.

When asked about his assessment of Carragher, Jota gave a typically nonchalant response. “I think that’s a little excessive,” he said. “I believe in myself. But the names associated with me were better than me. This is.”This calm and unassuming presence has characterized Jota’s style of play at Anfield over the last three and a half years.

Unsurprisingly, only Mohamed Salah (26 goals) has scored more goals at Anfield since September 2020 than Jota’s 18 goals. But not everything went well. That’s because Jota’s 21 goals in 2021/22 weren’t enough to earn him a starting place in the League Cup, FA Cup or Champions League finals. But times are now changing at Anfield and Jota has relished the opportunity to retain his crown despite Egypt’s King Salah’s absence from Liverpool for the past four weeks.

League. Cup and FA Cup action. “His football brain makes him a very intelligent footballer. He is. He understands the game very well,” said Klopp, who impressed Jota after the striker’s 2-0 win at Turf Moor earlier this season.
