Liverpool are lining up a summer move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, according to The Telegraph.
New Eagles boss Oliver Glasner already faces a fight to hold on to one of his key players in the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old England international has impressed since joining Palace from Chelsea in 2021, and his form hasn’t gone unnoticed at Anfield.
However, the Reds could face competition from archrivals Manchester United. United’s incoming sporting director, Dan Ashworth, is a known admirer of Guehi.
Liverpool and United are undergoing major changes, with new sporting directors and head coaches due in the summer.
Whether either club pursues Guehi will depend on the incoming leadership.
Ashworth’s potential arrival at United could be crucial, as he tried to sign Guehi for Newcastle United. He’s a vocal advocate for the defender.
Guehi’s former club, Chelsea, could also complicate matters. They don’t have a buy-back option, but they possess a sell-on clause and matching rights, meaning they could join the bidding war if they lose veteran Thiago Silva at the end of the season.
Silva’s form has dropped over the course of this season, and the Blues are not keen on renewing his deal.
However, Chelsea wouldn’t be able to offer Champions League football, a major advantage Liverpool and potentially United can boast.
With Guehi’s contract expiring in 2026, his value is unlikely to increase. This summer is the ideal time for Palace to cash in, but it remains to be seen which Premier League club will win the battle for his signature.
