Jamie Carragher savagely dismisses Rio Ferdinand celebration after Man Utd win over Liverpool

The former Liverpool defender even questioned the positives to come out of it, suggesting the Red Devils would be handily dispatched by Manchester City in the final of the competition. Carragher even added a dig towards Erik ten Hag by suggesting it would not be beneficial for United fans to see the Dutchman continue his role into next season.

Ferdinand and co had been sent into jubilation as United twice came from behind in the quarter-final clash to earn a 4-3 win. Antony’s strike first kept United hopes alive to force extra time before Marcus Rashford’s timely effort cancelled out Harvey Elliott’s goal for Liverpool.

Amad Diallo proved the difference at Old Trafford as he capped off a late break with a fine finish. The youngster’s celebrations saw him sent off for a second yellow card after he took off his shirt.

That meant little to Ferdinand and United fans as they jubilantly celebrated a famous win over their rivals. The former defender took to X to comment ‘Wembley’ in addition to an image that included previous United celebrations and Carragher looking downbeat.

It did not take long for the Sky Sports pundit to respond. Carragher warned Ferndinand against getting carried away when quoting the 45-year-old’s post.

He said: “Relax. Man City will beat you comfortably in the final & ETH will still be in charge next season. It’s not the win you think it is!!”

“Man United – I’ve been critical of them all season but they’ve found something from somewhere, a bit of spirit, a bit of momentum, they got a little bit of luck, sloppiness from Liverpool,” Keane said on ITV.

“Amazing, a huge turning point for a lot of these players, particularly for the manager. Old Trafford is bouncing. It’s been a tough season for everyone, great images, great for the young players to get through a big game. Honestly, an amazing finish to the game.”

United were drawn against Coventry City for their semi-final clash after the Sky Blues earned an emotional victory of their own. The Sky Blues were able to defeat Wolves thanks to two stoppage time goals with Haji Wright netting in the 100th minute to earn passage into the final four.
