Liverpool Champions League winner’s son makes debut for Reds’ U18 side before watching his father play under Sven-Goran Eriksson in legends game at Anfield – but why does he play for Wales?

The Reds have brought through various second-generation talent in the last few months, with Jayden Danns, son of Neil, and Lewis Koumas, son of Jason, recently making their first team debuts.

Danns made his debut in late February, also playing in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley earlier this month, while Koumas playing against Southampton in the FA Cup days later.

Now, a prodigy related to one of their own former stars, a member of the 2005 Champions League winning squad, could be the next young talent to break through.

Prince Kobe Cisse, the son of Djibril, turned out for Liverpool’s academy side over the international break at just 15, his first game for the side.

Liverpool’s U18 side played a friendly against ISI Academy on Friday night, with a number of the side’s regular players away on international duty, giving other players the opportunity to step up.

They did just that, with Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s side winning 3-1.

The next day, Prince, alongside his two brothers, watched his father at Anfield as he turned out for the Liverpool Legends team that beat Ajax Legends 4-2 in a game which saw Sven-Goran Eriksson achieve his lifelong dream of managing the Reds.

Cisse scored the second goal of Liverpool’s tally, which was the equalising goal as the hosts came back from 2-0 down.

As a player, the now-42-year-old spent three years with Liverpool between 2004 and 2007, scoring 24 goals in 79 appearances.

He also played for the likes of Lazio and QPR, as well as the France team at international level, before retiring in 2015 and then again in 2021.

Though he has 41 caps for Spain, Prince, born in England, in fact represents Wales at international level, and has been capped at Under-16 level. He qualifies to play for the side because his mother, reality TV star Lady Jude Cisse, is Welsh.

His brother, Cassius Clay Cisse, is on the books at Notts County in League Two.

Prince, who will turn 16 in the summer, will hope to be one of the next academy players to break through with Liverpool, and has a handy mentor in the form of his father.

His second brother, Marley, is also pursuing a career in football, while his sister, Ilona, is an actress and influencer.
