The Detroit Lions may need to find a replacement for cornerback Carlton Davis, who is unlikely to return for the postseason due to a fractured jaw. With Davis set to hit free agency, the Lions may struggle to re-sign him.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox suggests that the Lions should target Buffalo Bills cornerback Rasul Douglas as a potential replacement for Davis. Douglas is a starting-caliber corner with excellent size (6’2″, 209 lbs) and ball skills.
While Douglas has struggled in coverage this season, allowing a 74.1% completion rate on 54 targets, he has shown promise in other areas. He started 15 games for the Bills during the regular season and totaled 18 defensive stops with five passes defended.
Douglas, a Super Bowl LII champion, would bring a veteran presence to the Lions’ secondary. However, he may not be a high-level starting corner and could be a downgrade from Davis, who was having a Pro Bowl-level campaign before his injury.
The Lions could consider signing Douglas as a depth player, but he should not be relied upon as a starter. His contract is expected to be around $21 million, which may be a reasonable price for a veteran corner with his experience.
