Sometimes, it seems like the Green Bay Packers have too many good wide receivers. At others, it seems like they don’t have enough.
Following their disappointing first-round playoff exit, the Packers learned that they will be without athletic wideout Christian Watson until at least November of 2025. Without Watson’s vertical threat, the Packers’ offense as currently constructed would be limited in its versatility.
If the Packers want to shake things up, however, there are blockbuster trades to be had this offseason that could rejuvenate their passing game.
Seattle Seahawks two-time Pro Bowler D.K. Metcalf seems to be emerging as one of the top trade candidates this winter. He’s entering the final season of a four-year, $72 million contract, and the Seahawks could save nearly $32 million if they’re able to trade his full salary.
On Friday, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay named the Packers as a trade fit for Metcalf if Seattle does choose to shop him in March when the new league calendar begins.
“With Metcalf going into the final season of the three-year, $72 million extension he signed in 2022, it would make sense to deal him now while his value is still high,” Kay wrote. “Seattle… already has a viable replacement in Jaxon Smith-Njigba who’s ready to assume No. 1 wideout duties.”

Even in a “down year” by his standards, Metcalf put up 992 receiving yards in 15 games, hauling in five touchdowns. He has a previous 1,300-yard season under his belt, and has 48 total touchdowns in his six-year career.
Though it would deal a blow to the team’s salary cap situation next year, trading for Metcalf may be the way to go if the Packers want to go all-in. That would give them one of the most balanced offenses in the NFC, and their division is so competitive that they’ll need all the help they can get
