The New England Patriots have needs across their entire roster. There has been an emphasis on helping quarterback Drake Maye by adding offensive talent, but the defensive side of the ball needs attention, too.
Athlon Sports’ latest three-round mock draft, the New England Patriots add an edge rusher out of Michigan to their defense with the first of their two third-round selections.
New England selected Josaiah Stewart out of Michigan with the 69th pick in the new mock draft. Stewart is a flashy edge rusher, but there are concerns that his size will limit his production at the NFL level.
Despite his size, Stewart was an elite producer in his final season at Michigan. He finished with nine sacks and an elite pass rush win rate of 27.7 percent. Stewart’s production is something New England would love to add, and he would be a great selection on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Patriots’ acquisition of such a productive edge rusher would be a great addition to a defense that needs help off the edge. He brings great energy to the position. Stewart described his energy as a pass rusher and how his game will translate to the NFL.
My Violence and my effort… that tenacity to keep getting to the quarterback.”
With the Patriot’s defense having the fewest sacks in the NFL during the 2024 season, bringing in defenders to help bolster the pass rush is a priority for the team in the offseason. Stewart is one of the better Day 2 edge rushers and would be a great value in the draft at pick 69.
