The New Orleans Saints aren’t wasting any time scheduling their Top 30 visits with NFL draft prospects. These are a big deal — 30 prospects in the 2025 draft will be flown into New Orleans for a full-day visit at the team headquarters in Metairie. They’ll tour the facility and locker room, go through medical checkups, and interview with coaches and team brass. And the first of their 30 visits is scheduled with East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr.
KPRC2 Houston’s Aaron Wilson first reported that Revel would be meeting with the Saints for his first pre-draft visit, which was confirmed by Ryan Wilson for The Draft Network to be set for Thursday, March 6. He’s a fascinating prospect despite having suffered a torn ACL last September. The 22-year old weighed in at a hair under 6-foot-2 and 194 pounds at the combine, with long arms (measuring 32 5/8-inch) setting him up well for press coverage at the pro level.
In 2023, Revel earned second-team All-AAC honors for having logged 13 pass breakups, an interception, a fumble recovery and a sack, plus 54 tackles. He was limited to three games in 2024 before the knee injury and still intercepted two passes. He’s a playmaker.
And the Saints could use him. They don’t have a number-one cornerback after trading Marshon Lattimore so long as the specter of losing Paulson Adebo in free agency lingers over them. The only corners under contract for 2025 are Alontae Taylor, Kool-Aid McKinstry, Rico Payton and Rejzohn Wright. They don’t just need bodies at the position. They need difference makers.
It’s been speculated that, had he been healthy, Revel would have been a top-20 pick in this year’s draft. Instead his injury is hurting his draft stock and he could slip out of the first round altogether, much like McKinstry experienced a year ago. It remains to be seen how much time he’ll need to finish recovering from knee surgery this offseason but Revel could give the Saints a big boost in the secondary once he’s back on his feet. They’re certainly interested to be bringing him into town for a private visit.
