Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball is already gearing up for another transfer portal recruiting cycle, despite the ongoing March Madness. Coach Mark Pope, who successfully built his entire roster through the portal last year, is wasting no time in reaching out to potential recruits.
According to Jacob Polacheck of Kentucky Sports Radio, the Wildcats have already made contact with Division II transfer Elyjah Freeman. The Liberty Memorial University freshman had an impressive season, averaging 19.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game on 57.8/46.3/80.2 shooting splits.
Freeman, who grew up watching Kentucky play, is thrilled about the potential opportunity. “It’s one of the top schools in the country,” he said. While Freeman is likely the first of many transfer portal prospects the Wildcats will consider, the official portal period doesn’t open until March 24 and closes on April 22. As the transfer portal landscape continues to evolve, Kentucky is staying proactive in its pursuit of top talent. With Coach Pope’s experience and success in the portal, the Wildcats are well-positioned to attract high-caliber players and bolster their roster for the upcoming season.
