The dead period is now in effect, running through April 10th. While this may restrict programs from hosting or making in-person contact with potential transfers, it certainly doesn’t mean things are quiet. In fact, the phones are likely ringing off the hook, especially in Kentucky Wildcats coach Mark Pope’s office.
The Wildcats are on the prowl as they head into week two of navigating the transfer portal to strengthen and reload their roster this offseason. They have their sights set on numerous top transfer prospects, with the latest being Conference USA Player of the Year and Jacksonville State transfer, Jaron Pierre Jr.
Standing at 6 foot 5 and weighing 188 pounds, Pierre has garnered attention since entering the portal. With one year of eligibility remaining, he is set to join his fourth program in six seasons. He started his journey at Southern Miss, then moved to Wichita State before finding success at Jacksonville State, Pierre brings a wealth of experience to any team he joins.
Pierre’s talent is undeniable, leading the conference with an average of 21.6 points per game. His shooting efficiency, particularly from the three-point range at 38%, showcases his scoring prowess. Additionally, he boasts 42.4% shooting from the field, along with 5.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.
It’s no surprise that numerous programs are vying for the opportunity to recruit such a well-rounded and skilled athlete like Jaron Pierre Jr. He managed to visit SMU on Wednesday just before the dead period began. However, he is planning to make a stop in Lexington to meet with the Cats, who are in need of a guard with Pierre’s dynamic skills. This sets the stage for a heated battle between some of the nation’s top programs from the SEC to the ACC.
