All eyes are on the American West in a recently released Netflix documentary that centers on the tale of the notorious Forrest Fenn’s treasure hunt.
The documentary, titled Gold & Greed: The Hunt for Fenn’s Treasure, covers the chase for a hidden treasure chest filled with prizes estimated to be worth $2 million, buried by an art collector out of New Mexico in 2010. The twist – the seekers would need to decipher cryptic clues in order to claim the prize.
Those up-to-date on the story already know how this one ends, but even if that’s the case, the three-part mini-series is worth the watch thanks to its detailed coverage and many surprises along the way.
The documentary doesn’t shy away from one of the most controversial aspects of the show – the deaths among searchers. Given that clues were vague with signs pointing to the treasure being buried in the rugged and often treacherous Rocky Mountain region, many searchers set their sights on the Centennial State. Along with two deaths among people said to be search for the treasure in New Mexico and one death in Yellowstone, two men died in Colorado, as well – one in the area of Dinosaur National Monument (along the Utah-Colorado border) and another who was searching along the Arkansas River.
The docuseries currently has a 7.1 of 10 rating on IMDB, and has soared in popularity in recent days.
