“Sherrone Moore Strikes Again: Four-Star Elite Tight End Matt Ludwig Becomes Sixth Commit of Michigan’s 2026 Class”

Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore has secured a significant addition to the Wolverines’ 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of four-star tight end Matt Ludwig from Billings West High School in Montana. Ludwig’s pledge marks the sixth commitment for the class and underscores Moore’s emphasis on recruiting versatile, high-upside talent to bolster Michigan’s offensive arsenal.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 240 pounds, Ludwig is recognized as the top prospect in Montana and ranks among the nation’s top tight ends for the 2026 cycle. His junior season statistics are impressive: 53 receptions for 822 yards and six touchdowns, complemented by 133 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. Defensively, he contributed with four tackles for loss, six pass breakups, and four quarterback hurries, earning first-team All-State honors as a tight end and honorable mention as well with the coaching staff.

Michigan’s coaching staff, including Moore, offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, tight ends coach Steve Casula, and director of player personnel Albert Karschnia, demonstrated a strong commitment to Ludwig’s recruitment. Their visit to Montana to watch him play basketball highlighted their dedication. Ludwig reciprocated the interest with multiple visits to Ann Arbor, expressing enthusiasm about Michigan’s utilization of tight ends and the program’s emphasis on player development.

Ludwig’s addition is particularly significant given Michigan’s recent focus on enhancing its offensive line and tight end positions to support standout quarterback Bryce Underwood, the top overall recruit in the 2025 class. Under Moore’s leadership, Michigan aims to continue its tradition of developing NFL-caliber tight ends, with Ludwig poised to follow in the footsteps of recent stars like Colston Loveland.

With Ludwig’s commitment, Michigan’s 2026 class now includes:
