Frustrated Saints Fans Push for Taysom Hill’s Return to QB After Rookie Spencer Rattler Lands Second-Worst Starter Ranking in the Entire NFL — Could a Switch Save the Season?

The quarterback conversation in New Orleans is heating up — and not in the way rookie Spencer Rattler might have hoped. After being ranked the second-worst starting quarterback in the NFL in a recent national assessment, the rookie’s performance has sparked a wave of calls from frustrated Saints fans to give veteran Taysom Hill another shot under center.

From promise to pressure: Rattler’s rocky start

Spencer Rattler entered the 2025 NFL season as one of the most talked-about young quarterbacks, with the Saints banking on his strong arm, mobility, and competitive edge to help turn around the team’s offense. But just weeks into the season, the early returns have been far from encouraging.

The ranking — which placed Rattler ahead of only one other starter in the league — cited concerns about his decision-making, accuracy under pressure, and lack of consistent chemistry with his receivers. Through the first stretch of games, he’s posted one of the lowest passer ratings among starters and has struggled to sustain drives in key moments.

Fans remember Hill’s energy at QB

As Rattler’s struggles continue, Saints fans have taken to social media, talk radio, and even local sports bars to make their case for Taysom Hill, the do-it-all offensive weapon who has stepped in at quarterback in the past. Hill, known for his versatility, toughness, and playmaking ability, has been a fan favorite for years — especially during stretches when he brought an added spark to the Saints’ offense with his dual-threat style.

“I’m not saying Hill is the long-term answer,” one fan posted on X (formerly Twitter). “But at least with him at QB, the defense has to guess. Right now, with Rattler, they know exactly what’s coming.”

Coaching staff staying patient — for now

Head coach Dennis Allen and offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak have so far backed Rattler publicly, stressing the importance of giving a young quarterback time to adjust to the speed and complexity of NFL defenses. “He’s a rookie, and rookies take their lumps,” Allen told reporters. “We believe in his talent and in his ability to grow.”

Still, the noise from the fanbase — and the reality of a tightly contested NFC South race — means the coaching staff may soon face a difficult decision if the offense continues to sputter.

The Hill factor: risk and reward

While Hill’s past stints at quarterback have produced mixed statistical results, his unique style has often energized the Saints’ offense, particularly in short-yardage and red-zone situations. His ability to keep plays alive with his legs and his fearlessness in running the ball have made him a dangerous weapon — and, in the eyes of some, a more dynamic option than a struggling rookie.

However, relying heavily on Hill at quarterback also comes with drawbacks. Opponents have, at times, found ways to contain his running lanes, and his passing game has never matched the precision of a traditional pocket passer.

Could a switch save the season?

The Saints currently find themselves in a precarious position: stick with Rattler and hope he grows into the role quickly, or make a bold switch to Hill and risk disrupting the rookie’s development. For now, all eyes will be on Rattler’s next few performances — and whether they’re enough to quiet the calls for change.

As the season unfolds, the question remains: will patience with the rookie pay off, or will the Saints turn to their Swiss Army knife in hopes of saving their playoff hopes?
