Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will this morning preview Sunday’s Premier League clash with AFC Bournemouth on the back of Mo Salah going off injured for Egypt in their AFCON game with Ghana
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be speaking to reporters today to preview their trip to AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League.
The Reds return to action for the first time since their hard-earned win over Arsenal in the FA Cup third round. The German is set to face questions over Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian limped out of Thursday’s clash against Ghana with a suspected muscle issue.
We will be hearing from Klopp at 10am as he will provide the latest team news plus his thoughts on Jordan Henderson’s move to Ajax and what the future holds for Salah with plenty of football still to play in the Ivory Coast. There is likely to be an update on Trent Alexander-Arnold suffered a knee injury during the win over Arsenal while Dominik Szoboszlai has been sidelined since the New Years’ Day triumph over Newcastle United.
The Hungarian withdrew midway through with a hamstring and is facing a race to be fit for the trip to the Vitality Stadium. The Reds are the only club who have earned more points in the last 10 games than Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth. The Cherries overcame Liverpool the last time the two sides met on the South Coast in March.
Klopp presser reaction
So not a whole lot to update upon from Klopp in terms of the injury problems but Trent Alexander-Arnold is still targeting that game with Chelsea on January 31 and Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are seemingly progressing without too many hiccups as things stand. The club will await an update on Mohamed Salah and that is expected at some point today. Hopefully it is nothing too serious
Klopp on Quansah
“Clean sheets are good but it’s the performance, Jarell played an outstanding pre-season. People knew he was a talent but his real face was shown when got close to the first team. Since then he’s only played good games, Newcastle outstanding, all fine since then, really good. I can only integrate into the team what the academy produces, so the amount of academy players at Arsenal, 10 all together, that is a nice thing. It’s about the players because the academy cannot produce miracles, they make wonderful art from pieces of wood. When some are scousers, it is even more fun. It’s not the ticket into the team but it’s cool, Curtis, Trent and now Jarell, it lets youngsters know what is possible.”
Klopp on Henderson
“I am happy for him because it looks like he’s happy and that’s the most important thing for me. I don’t read these stories, people are critical of the move, first there and now coming back. I don’t know how we dare to judge, we have one life and sometimes you make decisions and it is different after you make them. Ninety-nine per cent when I spoke to him was football wise, many things to develop there but not critical [of Saudi] but then he thought it was better to come back with his family. Ajax is a sensational club.”
Klopp on the break
“As much as the boys like going on holidays they love football. Being back here, cold but blue skies and that is how it should be.”
Klopp on Konate form
“I was not surprised because I know what he can do. All the defenders, Virgil, Quansah, Gomez; we’re top of the table and the boys are performing. The number of goals conceded you cannot forget, it’s not all Konate, it’s the whole team, this is what we keep in our minds, it all starts from a common defensive idea.”
Klopp on Diaz:
“You might have forgotten but in the past we’ve had maybe the best fron three this has had in a long time: Mane, Firmino, Salah; how often we were discussing their drop in form? We discussed it at the time but we just let them be. If Lucho is not playing great I don’t have to tell him, he knows more than I know. It is about faith and trust and time. There was no doubt he would be back, definitely. In general we weren’t struggling at creating or scoring, it’s how it is. A general trust and faith we have in the boys and that’s why they have spells for two or three weeks after the most challenging time in his life that he was not prepared for, he is back.
