Manchester United could target rivals Liverpool as one of their top management targets. The Reds must replace Jurgen Klopp. The Telegraph report that there will be competition for the Liverpool manager’s job.
The club are currently searching for a successor to Jurgen Klopp after the German announced that he will step down as manager at the end of the season. Of course, many names are immediately associated with the color red.
Xabi Alonso is the biggest link among them, with Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting’s Ruben Amorim also linked by Portuguese media. However, the first two seem to be in high demand.
Bayern Munich have decided to continue working with Thomas Tuchel. If they decide to move on, Alonso will be top of the list for a new manager.
United, on the other hand, want De Zerbi as an alternative to Erik Ten Hag. Their change of ownership could see them switch from Dutch to attacking this season.
So Liverpool have a bit of a problem. They have options for key targets. This is not ideal, especially if you are negotiating a contract and hoping to sign it. But red also has its advantages.
They are the only club publicly looking for a new manager, with United and Bayern yet to decide whether they want to make a change.
However, Liverpool could let go of management as they plan to wait until the end of the season before announcing a new manager. This would give both United and Bayern enough time to officially enter the market.
It could be enough for Liverpool to speed up the process. Honestly, this is the biggest decision in decades and you want it to be done as well as possible.
