Liverpool fans could have more to worry about in the coming months after captain Virgil van Dijk was left in doubt over his future following Jurgen Klopp’s departure.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has refused to commit his future to the club ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s departure. The 32-year-old arrived at Anfield in 2018 and has gone on to become one of the greatest defenders in Premier League history, winning numerous club and individual awards over the past six years.
But with just 18 months left on his contract, rumors about his future have grown as Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp announced he will leave the club at the end of the season.
In addition to Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold have 18 months left on their contracts. This is because Liverpool are aiming to secure their top three players in the near future.
The Netherlands captain was asked about the length of his contract and admitted that he cannot say for sure what his future at the club will look like.
“Do you have 18 months left?” “Yes,” he said before answering Van Dijk. That’s good math. Listen, I don’t know. It is understood that the club has a lot of work ahead of it.
“Employees leave and many things change to replace managers, not just managers. So the club has a lot of work ahead of it and I would like to know what direction it will take.
“But we will monitor the situation once the announcement is made,” he said. “I can’t say anything yet.”While most Liverpool fans are perfectly happy with the contract situations of their biggest stars, it is certainly a troubling proposition for Klopp’s transfer and Van Dijk admitted it was “difficult to accept”.
