Trent Alexander-Arnold ruled out of Carabao Cup fina

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley Stadium through injury.Alexander-Arnold picked up a knee injury during Liverpool’s FA Cup third round win over Arsenal at the start of January and will be out for “two weeks”. He missed three games, including the two Carabao Cup semi-finals against Fulham, but returned in the FA Cup match against Norwich on 28 January.Alexander-Arnold started the Premier League defeat to Arsenal and played in the 58th minute but was taken off early as a precaution.

However, he came on as a half-time substitute against Burnley last weekend. The player injured his left knee in that game, something that hadn’t happened to Arsenal a few days earlier. The Liverpool press have now reported that the right-back will miss the Carabao Cup final after injuring his knee against Burnley. The vice-captain did not participate in training on Tuesday. Alexander-Arnold’s return coincides with rising talent Conor Bradley taking compassionate leave following the tragic death of his father earlier this month.

Jurgen Klopp said Bradley would spend “as much time with his family as necessary” during his holiday at home in Northern Ireland after the game against Burnley. The 20-year-old, who has been very impressive of late, is back in training and could now start at Wembley.Mohamed Salah returned to training this week after injuring his thigh during the Africa Cup of Nations. Alisson could play again after missing the game against Burnley through illness, but Caoimhin Kelleher has been the preferred choice for this season’s Carabao Cup and the last time Liverpool reached the final was ahead of Brazil in 2022.
