The Patriots need to make a change at quarterback, and many believe the best way to improve the position is through the draft. However, this does not mean that you should choose a dialer with three numbers. Mack Jones was once considered the successor to Tom Brady in New England, but he has done nothing over the last two seasons except not be that guy. His successful rookie campaign quickly turned into a three-year campaign that everyone wanted to continue.
Can anyone add who they think the Patriots should reach out to Jones to right this wrong? Is Justin Fields the best pick for New England’s future? Let’s take a look at how trading him will affect the rest of the Patriots draft. It may seem a little counterintuitive for the Patriots to give up the third pick in a trade, and we agree that’s exactly what happens when you trade the computer. The closer we get to the draft, the more influence New England can have on potential trades. Since it’s just exercise, everyone should rest.
USC quarterback Caleb Williams and UNC quarterback Drake May are the first two players off the board in this scenario, so it depends on who the Patriots prefer. The only LSU quarterback we know is Jaden Daniels or Fields and they have one of the best offenses around. We chose the latter.Fields is a dual-threat option under center and has shown flashes that lead many to believe he can succeed in the right system. Apparently Chicago had no such system. That’s the same bet as selecting Daniels, so we’re bullish on how the rest of the draft plays out. We used PFF’s Mock Draft Simulator to make picks and trades in all seven rounds. You can see our results and arguments below. The Patriots are leaving the franchise in this scenario, and investing big money in Mike Onwenu in free agency would make their offensive line much better on paper than it is now.
Roman Wilson, Malachi Kohli and Luke McCaffrey are several wide men who offer interchangeability and positional versatility. They all attended the Senior Bowl and looked ready to contribute right away.Braelon Allen might be the best running back in this draft, but there’s nothing better than grabbing someone like him in the fifth round. He will immediately look to replace Ramon Stevenson, who has shown no signs of being able to handle a workload despite wanting to return to New England. Jared Wiley is a tough player to develop, but he will immediately become the Patriots’ best player at the position.
Joe Milton III is another developmental specialist, but will need to add some QBs this offseason. The Patriots defense is good, but Tyler Nuvin would be an immediate replacement for the departed Kyle Dugger. Kalen King joins an already strong group of cornerbacks. Those two things make New England secondary schools the best in the NFL.
