Alexis Mac Allister has revealed how he first discovered Jurgen Klopp was leaving Liverpool which involved a brief misunderstanding with Mohamed Salah.
Klopp announced on January 26 that he would be stepping down from his role as Reds manager at the end of the season. The German has been in charge since October 2015 and has now won eight major trophies during his time at Anfield.
Liverpool won the Carabao Cup on Sunday, defeating Chelsea 1-0 after extra time. A Virgil van Dijk goal in the 118th minute clinched the trophy for the Reds for the second time in Klopp’s tenure.
Mac Allister played the majority of the game for Liverpool at Wembley Stadium before being substituted shortly before the end of 90 minutes. Victory in the Carabao Cup was Mac Allister’s first major trophy in English football and first since signing for the Reds from Brighton last summer.
The 25-year-old has spoken about the news last month that saw Klopp announce he would be leaving Anfield. Mac Allister has revealed that he heard the news from Salah, and initially believed Klopp would be departing the club immediately before being told it would be in the summer.
