Liverpool host Man City in a huge game in the Premier League title race on Sunday and former players Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards agreed to a huge bet on the outcome on live TV
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has put his money where his mouth is with a huge bet with ex-Manchester City defender Micah Richards when their two former clubs face off on Sunday.
All eyes will be on Anfield as Liverpool host the reigning Premier League champions in a huge game in this year’s title race. Richards and Carragher are already excited for the game and couldn’t help but address it as they worked together on CBS Sports’ Champions League coverage on Wednesday night.
And the conclusion of their conversation was a bet for a new Thom Brown designer suit, which would likely cost the loser in excess of $2,000, judging by prices on their website. The bet was made as the former defenders appeared on American TV for coverage of the night’s games, including Manchester City’s 3-1 win over FC Copenhagen.
After the game, a confident Richards said: “Wonderful evening. I said before the game, and I wasn’t being cocky, Jamie (Carragher) was alluding to the fact I was maybe trying to be cocky, I wasn’t. I just think Man City have got too much quality.
“They’re in a good run of form at this moment in time and long may it continue because these next couple of weeks, Liverpool, Newcastle, the Arsenal…”
At that point, Carragher interrupted and asked: “Has Pep ever won at Anfield?”. Richards replied: “Once. We did stats, didn’t we. I can’t remember when it was, it was once in nine, and four draws as well.”
Carragher said: “One in nine when there was no crowd. I’m going there.”
Host Kate Abdo then interjected and asked what they were willing to bet on the game, and Richards replied: “Hmm, a suit! I want a new Thom Brown suit.”
Carragher asked: “How much are they?” Before they shook hands on the deal, with Richards agreeing to buy Carragher any suit he wants if he wins.
Manchester City might have to do without Jérémy Doku for the game. With Jack Grealish already sidelined with injury, Doku missed the match against Copenhagen and manager Pep Guardiola confirmed he is struggling with an injury after being substituted in the second half of the Manchester derby.
“He had some muscular problems so we did not want to take the risk.” Meanwhile, Liverpool have been boosted by Mohamed Salah ’s return to the squad to take on Sparta Prague on Thursday.
Speaking ahead of the Europa League game, Jürgen Klopp said: “Mo Salah has travelled with us, he’s trained for two days and is full of energy. We want to be careful, but this is a super intense period of the season. We want to use him. It’s just good news.”
