Ruben Dias ramps up title war of words as Man City defender fires jibe at Liverpool star

The Manchester City defender has responded to comments made by Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of this weekend’s Premier League title showdown

 

Manchester City’s Ruben Dias has responded to Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold’s comments about the Reds’ trophies “meaning more” to them than City’s do.

Alexander-Arnold described City as a ‘machine’ when discussing their recent trophy-laden seasons under Pep Guardiola, the peak of which was last season’s treble which saw the champions lift their first ever Champions League title.

It set off something of a war of words between the two giants, with Erling Haaland also getting in on the act by gloating over the three trophies won by Guardiola’s men last term.

 

The two sides meet on Sunday in what could be seen as an early title decider. Liverpool could end the weekend with a four point cushion at the top of the league, while a win for the visitors at Anfield would see them leapfrog their hosts.

Manchester, Dias said: “We’ve won a lot in this club, especially last year with the Treble. I think it’s pretty certain between us, between our fans, how much it meant to all of us.

 

“At the end of the day you can only have certain emotions if you actually win stuff. A Treble is a feeling you can only know how it feels when you actually do it.

“I think in a club like Man City and my previous club our greatness will be shown in a way that these comments don’t affect us. We know what we’ve done, we know what we’ve conquered, we know what we’re going for in what’s to come. We don’t do it for anyone else, we do it for ourselves.
