Liverpool is stepping up its transfer plans following the appointment of Richard Hughes as sporting director. He looks set to raid Bournemouth for a chief scout, with Liverpool having already been linked with summer additions. A deal for a Premier League ace will not come cheap for the Reds though, while Jürgen Klopp could soon have his vice-captain available again. Here’s your round-up of the latest Liverpool news.
Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly set his sights on returning for the match against Sheffield United on April 4. The England international has been out for well over a month after aggravating a knee problem in the win over Burnley.
Speaking ahead of last weekend’s clash with Manchester United, Jürgen Klopp suggested Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota would soon return to training, although the clash with Brighton would come too soon. He claimed the visit to Old Trafford on April 7 would be a more reasonable date for the pair, with Curtis Jones expected to return soon after the break.
But according to The Times, Alexander-Arnold is eager to push forward that date and feature in the visit of the Blades to Anfield. Conor Bradley has proved to be an able deputy in the 25-year-old’s absence and will challenge him for the right-back slot when fit.
Alexander-Arnold will hope to prove his fitness in the final weeks of the season to earn a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad, and help Liverpool win the Premier League and Europa League after missing the Carabao Cup win.
According to the Daily Mail, Forest face a battle to keep hold of the 21-year-old due to FFP concerns, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle having all been impressed by his performances.
But The Telegraph reports that the Premier League strugglers will adopt a ‘tough stance’ over its key players, most notably Murillo and Morgan Gibbs-White. It is claimed that Forest believe the defender could eventually be worth $89m (£70m/€82m)
Murillo only cost the club $14m (£11m/€13m) when he arrived from Corinthians last year but he has caught the eye, with Jamie Carragher among others labelling his displays as ‘outstanding’.
