Anthony Taylor truth emerges after being appointed referee for Manchester United vs Liverpool

Anthony Taylor has been appointed referee for Liverpool’s blockbusting Premier League clash at Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

It will be the fifth time this season Taylor has been the man in the middle for the Reds, who have won only one of the previous four such encounters.

While they beat Newcastle United 4-2 at home on New Year’s Day, Jurgen Klopp’s side were held to draws at Chelsea and Brighton and were later beaten 3-1 at Arsenal.

That loss, though, was one of only three with Taylor in charge in more than five years, a period during which he has officiated 24 Liverpool games.

Taylor has taken charge of two previous meetings between the Reds and bitter North West rivals Manchester United, the first of which was a goalless draw at Anfield in October 2016.

He was also the whistle-blower for Liverpool’s historic 5-0 triumph at Old Trafford five years later, during which he sent off United midfielder Paul Pogba for a foul on Naby Keita.

John Brooks has been named the VAR for Sunday’s game with Richard West his assistant. Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn are the assistant referees with Craig Pawson the fourth official.
