Klopp’s side created plenty of openings but only took the lead when Luis Diaz finished past Andre Onana. However, the Reds were made to pay for failing to take their chances when Bruno Fernandes drew his side level with a stunning finish from 45-yards out.

Kobbie Mainoo then fired United ahead before Salah levelled with a late penalty after Aaron Wan-Bissaka brought down Harvey Elliott. And speaking on Sky Sports commentary during the game, Neville highlighted the fact that Liverpool struggle to finish Erik ten Hag’s side off whenever they meet.

He said: “If you think about the other games, on paper you think this is Liverpool’s toughest game on the run-in, it’s actually their easiest they’re going to play. There is just something about the fixture they can’t kill it off for some reason.

“If I was Jurgen Klopp I would have been threatening the team at half-time, saying ‘do not make the same mistake twice, you can’t let them off the hook’.”

Neville later said at full-time: “From a Manchester United point of view, an odd bunch. So low in their performance in the first half but I think grateful for a draw in the end.”
