Jurgen Klopp was left fuming after the pre-match press conference prior to the disappointing Liverpool-Atalanta match on Thursday.
The midweek Europa League clash against Atalanta panned out to be a disappointment as the Reds faced a 3-0 loss at Anfield. However, before the match, there was something that upset Jurgen Klopp.
Jurgen Klopp Was Angry Even Before The Liverpool-Atalanta Match
In the pre-match press conference towards the buildup of the match, the German boss encountered a Dutch journalist.
Klopp wanted to know if the same media professional was responsible for the ‘horrible’ interview with Jordan Henderson last month after an Ajax match where he was accused of ‘playing too many square balls’ and was asked if that was his worst performance for the Dutch giants.
“You’re not the one that interviewed Jordan Henderson are you?”
Klopp asked.
The journalist replied,
“No, that was my colleague.”
This answer most definitely did not satisfy Klopp as he went on to counter the journalist by saying,
“Your colleague, is he friend of yours?”
The Dutchman answered that he only saw the interviewer in question occasionally. Klopp wound up the journalist even further as he expressed his disbelief,
“Wow! What a horrible interview that was!”
When the Dutch journalist asked Klopp if he had ‘not liked it’, the Reds gaffer replied,
“Did you know anybody that liked it?”
Eventually, the two parties reached a truce when the journalist explained that he had spoken to his colleague about the interview, and the journalist at fault accepted the fact that he was too harsh and offered an apology.
“Wow, ok, well I’ll take that apology on behalf of Hendo.”
The German replied.
The Dutch media professional again reignited the topic, raising the awkwardness another notch when he asked Klopp if he thought Dutch journalists were too direct.
“Do you want me as a German to speak about Dutch people in general? No? Good.”
Klopp answered.
The former Borussia Dortmund coach then went on to explain how he deals with the key players and members who are in fact Dutch. The only problem for Klopp
was ‘that interview was not good.’
