Liverpool transfers: Two summer targets now sitting in Golden Boy top 5

Two Liverpool summer transfer targets are among the top five contenders for the Golden Boy award. Can the Reds secure both?

The ‘rankings’ for the Golden Boy Award later this year have been released. The award recognises the world’s best young player – provided they haven’t already won it.

There are 100 players mentioned, with Liverpool boasting one – Bobby Clark. He’s only 68th, but Clark has had a bit of a breakout this season. A solid rest of the year could see him shoot up the rankings here.

But there are two relevant names in the top five for Liverpool.

Joao Neves, the Benfica midfielder, currently sits in second. Only Lamine Yamal is ahead of him in the running for the award right now – and he’s someone who could see the second half of the year at Anfield.

Liverpool have been linked for around a year now. O Jogo said just last month, in fact, that the Reds were in the running to sign Neves after his performances this season.

Reports in France have linked Liverpool with a move for Lille defender Leny Yoro, too. The teenage centre-back has been a revelation this season, drawing interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United.

He’s also in the top five for the Golden Boy. He could become a true contender, too, if he does secure a big-money move this summer.

Neves, though, is an interesting one as Liverpool could use big investment in a sitting midfielder. They don’t come much more exciting in the position than Neves.

Of course, he’s command an enormous fee – but it’s one the Reds might feel justified to spend. Neves is one of the best young players on the planet, after all.
