Arsenal star who played under Arne Slot tells Liverpool what to expect when he becomes their new manager

An Arsenal star has already given his seal of approval to Arne Slot, one of the favourites to become the new Liverpool manager.

Jurgen Klopp announced back in January that he would be stepping down at the end of the season and rumours had been swirling about who would be replacing him.

Former player Xabi Alonso committed himself to Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen and the latest information is that Feyenoord boss Slot is at ‘the forefront’ of Liverpool’s search.

It’s claimed talks have already began and Liverpool would have to pay around £9 million on compensation for the Dutchman.

Slot has won the Eredivisie and KNVB cup with Feyenoord and is known for his aggressive, front-foot style of football.

The 45-year-old is also credited with improving young players and one that he worked with was Gunners winger Reiss Nelson.

Nelson spent the 2020/21 season playing under him at Feyenoord, playing 32 times as they reached the Europa Conference League final.

And the 24-year-old spoke glowingly about his experience under Slot.

“Holland was great for me. I felt like Arne Slot is a great manager,” he said, as per the Daily Star.

“He really got me into my rhythm. He gave me a lot of opportunities to play and I excelled.

“It was really cool, like I said we got to the final. It was just the little things with the personal life, not my family around, the Corona situation. So it was a bit tough. But football-wise, it was perfect.”

Slot has been linked with Premier League clubs before, having notably turned down Leeds and been in contention for previous vacancies at Chelsea and Spurs.

He only signed a two-year contract extension with the Rotterdam outfit in May but did also hint that his next managerial job will be in England.

“My next step will not be a club in Holland,” he said.

“If that is my next step, then I’ve failed completely. The normal next step will be to go abroad and I’ve always said the best league in the world is the Premier League.”

Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi are still believed to be candidates for Liverpool.
