Liverpool’s early success in the 2024-25 season is a testament to what former manager Jurgen Klopp built and left behind after his retirement. However, the continued success also indicates Arne Slot’s ability.
Klopp was hired by Liverpool shortly after Brendan Rodgers was sacked in 2015 and since then, the Reds have been one of the models of success in the Premier League. After almost a decade of success, Klopp announced he was stepping away at the end of last season, with Slot tabbed to be the successor to build on his achievements
Considering who he was replacing and the expectations placed upon him, Slot took the challenge head-on and continued to develop the foundation his German predecessor had placed. And the Dutchman has delivered so far, with Liverpool sitting atop the table, ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal.
Guy Cross, one of the chairmen of the Official Liverpool Supporters Club San Francisco Bay, applauded the job Slot has done so far, despite filling in for Klopp. “I think they’re, in my opinion, doing very well for everything that’s gone over,” Cross began. “We’re top of table. That’s awesome. You can’t be bummed about it.
“That speaks volumes but I think a couple of things resonate. One, it’s a testament to the strength of the squad that Klopp and his administration built. It’s a really, really good group of players. And he built a really awesome system of bringing up youth into the squad. So I think that’s one thing that’s really impressive.”
Along with praising Klopp, Cross also commended the Dutch manager for understanding what he needed to do with the system the German had put in place throughout his years at Anfield. “Two, I’m really impressed by how Slot has taken that team and rather than try and immediately show his difference in style, he’s really been able to understand,” Cross continued.
