Plenty of Liverpool players put in strong performances as the Reds ran out 3-2 winners against Brighton at the Amex Stadium last night.
Brighton managed to claw back through Simon Adingra in the 81st minute, but Liverpool’s Luis Diaz quickly responded with a third goal, keeping Liverpool ahead.
Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey then scored in stoppage time, making for a nerve-wracking end, but Liverpool held on for the win
One of the key moments of the match involved young defender Jarell Quansah.
Quansah’s misplaced pass led to Brighton’s opening scoring opportunity, placing the21-year-old under pressure.
Recognizing the need for stability, manager Arne Slot made a tactical substitution, taking Quansah off to bring in Konate.
The Dutchman has since spoken about Quansah following the rather ruthless substitution
However, it has emerged that a strong performer in Viteslav Jaros actually wanted to leave the club in the summer.
Indeed, the Athletic have reported that the performance he showed on the south coast justified Liverpool’s decision to retain the Czech international even after he explicitly asked to leave in the summer.
The 22-year-old received a 9/10 for his showing from the Liverpool Echo, despite the two late goals conceded.
Speaking to liverpool.com after the game, he said:
I’m really happy that I could help the team like this in a tough game against Brighton away. I’m over the moon with my performance and the team performance.
Cody Gakpo was pivotal for the Reds, scoring twice early in the second half, setting Liverpool up with a strong lead.

“[A first save in the game] calms you down, whatever it is, whether it’s a catch or a save you can get early on to calm you down and settle you in. That helps a lot.
“I didn’t really know too much about [the Adingra header], I was just getting across then the header went back across the goal and I just stuck my hand out to get something on it – and it went wide luckily.”
He also admitted that the Reds were hanging on in the final period of the contest, saying:
“I think the boys dug in, you could see the last five to 10 minutes we were under the cosh a little bit and Brighton brought some players on who caused us trouble,” reflected Jaros.
But we managed to handle it and get through into the hat for the next round.”
