Liverpool asserted their dominance on the Champions League on Tuesday night as they cruised to victory against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.
The reigning Bundesliga champions couldn’t get close to Liverpool who scored all their goals in the second half to lead them to a 4-0 victory at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s side now sit on top of the Champions League table and the Premier League table after four wins from four in the European competition
Goals from Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo helped the Reds to victory after they came of a win in the league at the weekend against Brighton. Arne Slot will now look forward to the weekend when Liverpool host Aston Villa on Saturday night.
GK – Caoimhin Kelleher – 8/10 – The Irish shot-stopper made a superb double save in the second half when the Reds were 3-0 up.
LB – Kostas Tsimikas – 7/10 – The left back came in for an out-of-sorts Andy Robertson against Leverkusen.
CB – Ibrahima Konate – 7/10 – Konate didn’t have too much to deal with, however he performed well when called upon.
CB – Virgil Van Dijk – 7/10 – The Dutchman won a couple of aerial balls in the game and helped the Reds to a clean sheet.
RB – Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10 – The Englishman had a shot on goal in what would have been a superb goal, but it blazed just over the bar.
CM – Ryan Gravenberch – 8/10 – The Dutchman was pivotal during Liverpool’s transition play from defence to attack.
CM – Curtis Jones – 8/10 – Jones was able to assist the Reds’ first goal of the game on Tuesday with a fantastic pass through to Luis Diaz.
Midfield dominance for Liverpool
CM – Alexis MacAllister – 8/10 – MacAllister played more of an attacking role than usual against Leverkusen and he got involved well in the game.
Luis Diaz hat-trick seals the win
LW – Luis Diaz – 10/10 – The Columbian winger was fantastic, he scored a hat-trick against Leverkusen in what was a dominant attacking performance.
RW – Mo Salah – 9/10 – Salah produced two assists including a perfect cross into Cody Gakpo for Liverpool’s second goal.
ST – Cody Gakpo – 8/10 – Gakpo scored the Reds’ second goal with a header on the end of Mo Salah’s cross.
