Cowboys roundtable: Eagles loss, the QB position, and this week’s game on MNF

Each week, we bring you the latest updates on the Dallas Cowboys, paired with insights from our writers. Welcome back to the roundtable! This week’s discussion features Brian Martin, Tom Ryle, David Howman, and RJ Ochoa.

Which side performed worse against the Philadelphia Eagles: the offense or the defense?

The Cowboys’ 3-6 record worsened after a loss to the Eagles, where the offense failed to score a touchdown, producing only 146 total yards. Meanwhile, the defense allowed 348 yards and four touchdowns, with Philadelphia resting its starters by the fourth quarter—a disheartening home defeat.

Brian: Both sides were poor, but the offense was worse due to its lack of identity. With the starting quarterback out, scoring now depends on Brandon Aubrey.

Howman: It’s the offense, but I don’t fully blame them. Injuries to key players, including the quarterback, have made an already weak offense worse.

Tom: While the defense initially held its ground, the offense took the dubious honor of being worse, especially after Elliott’s fumble that shifted the game’s momentum.

RJ: The offense was abysmal, failing to score a touchdown since September 22nd. Going over two home games without a touchdown is inexcusable.

Preview of Week 11: Cowboys vs. Texans

The Cowboys (3-6) face the Texans (6-4) at AT&T Stadium. Dallas leads the series 4-2, with Houston yet to win on the road in this matchup. However, the Texans are favored at -7, given their strong performance this season.

Brian: My expectations are low. Houston is the superior team, and I’m more interested in how Texans OC Bobby Slowik utilizes his players—a potential candidate for the Cowboys’ head coach position.

Howman: Pain is my expectation. The Texans have vulnerabilities, but the Cowboys seem to be the weakest team Houston will face this year, especially with C.J. Stroud poised to exploit Dallas’s secondary.

Tom: The Cowboys will likely provide another lopsided loss. Houston, coming off a narrow defeat, will use this game to address their second-half offensive struggles.

RJ: I’ll be attending, but my only expectation is another embarrassing loss from the Cowboys. Regardless of the lineup, they will find a way to disappoint.
