Ben Roethlisberger doesn’t hold back. While the future of head coach Mike Tomlin remains secure, the former Super Bowl champion suggests a potential scapegoat could be sacrificed to justify that team’s decision.
He maintains a very critical stance toward the Pittsburgh Steelers after another disappointing season. The former quarterback spoke in his podcast Footbahlin about Art Rooney II’s statements, in which the owner said there would be “a couple of changes,” but not “wholesale” changes.
To me that feels like you’re happy with what you have, you’re just not happy with how what you have is performing. Again, I don’t know what changes are you making. I feel like when those kind of things are said, it’s like, ok, we’re not getting rid of the big dog, we’re not getting of the coordinators, but there’s always got to be a scapegoat somewhere
Roethlisberger, who won the Super Bowl twice with the Steelers, even went further and took a risk by naming someone who could lose their job in the series of changes promised by Rooney.
What is Mike Tomlin’s future?
Mike Tomlin will remain as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but after hearing the words of owner Art Rooney II, Ben Roethlisberger hinted at who could leave the team as the potential scapegoat
That scapegoat is going to end up being like, I hope not, Danny Smith, the special teams coach, which I don’t know how you could because their special teams were unbelievable this year, or it’s like, running back coach, tight ends coach, offensive line coach. There’s always someone. It’s like, we have to put it on somebody.”
