Tom Brady took part in another Super Bowl on Sunday, but this time he wasn’t on the field.
The NFL’s record leader in passing yards, touchdowns and wins signed 10-year deal worth a reported $375 million to become the lead NFL analyst for Fox Sports. In his rookie season as a broadcaster, Brady was in the booth with Kevin Burkhardt calling the Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
Being a seven-time Super Bowl champion and playing in three others allowed Brady to provide unique insight on the game. But his broadcast performance drew mixed reviews, with some criticizing his timing and analysis during the game.
There also were some aspects that were out of Brady’s control, like the Philadelphia Eagles running away with the game in the first half and cruising to a 40-22 victory. The 47-year-old’s criticism of the officiating Sunday didn’t go unnoticed by fans, either. Remember, Brady also is a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, and the NFL placed restrictions on what he can say as a broadcaster.
Here’s what’s being said nationally about Brady’s first Super Bowl in the booth as the Eagles denied Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ bid to become the first team to three-peat:
Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde posted: “Brady on the devastation of losing the Super Bowl was good. More of that insight, Tom.”
Comedian Frank Caliendo posted: “I’d love for Tom Brady to give us some insight into why something might happen instead of always telling us what we just saw.”
Sports anchor Taylor Kauffman posted: “Lol at Tom Brady saying he’s always been a fan of letting the guys play… if there was one quarterback that was always looking to the refs for calls….”
