Many in Pennsylvania were thrilled with that Eagles’ Super Bowl victory, but not the state’s sportsbooks.
According to figures released Thursday by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, sportsbooks lost a net $6.5 million on Super Bowl LIX.
A record $101.5 million was bet on the Super Bowl with Pennsylvania sportsbooks, a 20.4% increase over the previous high mark set in 2023, when the Eagles lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.
The loss came after a high percentage of wagers were placed on the Eagles to win, according to the PGCB. Philadelphia defeated the Chiefs 40-22 as one-point underdogs.
The loss for Pennsylvania sportsbooks is in sharp contrast to other states.
New York’s gaming commission reported a $62.8 million net win on the Super Bowl for the state’s sportsbooks, ESPN reported. Sportsbooks in New Jersey and Nevada also reported big wins on the Super Bowl.
